  Jiyona Therapy

Jiyona Therapy is a place for healing that adopts a distinctive holistic approach, integrating emotional and mental recovery with a profound exploration of one's life purpose.

As human beings, we are composed of three parts: Spirit, Soul, and Body. The soul encompasses our mind—both conscious and subconscious—our will, and our emotions. Typically, we let the soul take control of our lives, but this isn't always the safest or most dependable way to live.

Many therapeutic interventions operate at the soul level, often yielding unpredictable results. At Jiyona Therapy, we invite you to discover the transformative power of a spirit-empowered approach, which ultimately rejuvenates the soul by renewing the mind.

"The tongue is the pen of the unseen—what you speak becomes what you see."

About Me

I was born in the central region of India and grew up playing cricket with my neighbourhood friends, feasting on succulent guavas and papayas on my Grandfather's farm. I attended a reputed university in Pune, Maharashtra and completed my Master’s degree in social work.

Besides English, I speak fluent Hindi (my first language) and understand Marathi, Punjabi, and Konkani. I have worked as a social worker in India for about 9 years before moving to New Zealand with my family in 2015.

I love God and give Him credit for everything. He, being a loving Father, has redeemed me and loved me as a beloved son. I am married and in love with my sweet wife, and together we are blessed with three beautiful children. I love long drives, playing badminton, mountain biking, cooking, and hanging out with family & friends.

Background

I have experience working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds in various settings, including non-governmental organisations and Public/Government agencies. In further steps towards advancing my professional practice as a mental health professional, I completed my postgraduate training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing, utilising a strength-based, solutions-focused, and holistic wellbeing approach. I have worked with people experiencing issues including anxiety, depression, panic disorder, guilt, abuse, trauma, grief, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, eating disorders and addictions. I also provide professional supervision.

I take pride and am grateful at the same time in calling myself a Christian counsellor, for I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes. I have seen in my practice of over a decade now, as a mental health professional, the power of the gospel over and above the psychological interventions, not to demean the counselling/therapy in any way, but to acknowledge its limited scope. In contrast, God, who created us, knows us better than we do. God's word empowers us to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. I might sound to you very religious, but the fact is, I hate religion, since the day I started exploring the love of my Creator.

APPROACH & COUNSELLING MODALITIES

I offer a confidential and safe space for in-person, virtual and phone appointments. In-person sessions are offered from two different locations in Upper Hutt, Wellington.

I utilise a variety of models to support my clients in identifying and addressing their personal, professional, or psychological challenges. I can support you in analysing various aspects of your challenges, helping you gain a wider understanding of yourself and your choices, and finding solutions to move forward.

Te Whare Tapa Wha is one of the holistic wellbeing models, which focuses on the social, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing of an individual. How we interact with our environment is strongly influenced by our past experiences and sometimes trauma. However, identifying and establishing our identity enables us to know who we are created to be and helps navigate our lives with a purpose rather than being drifted away by our emotions.

The holistic wellbeing approach facilitates talking about and collaboratively working through your personal problems to find a positive way to clarify the issues, explore your options, develop strategies, increase self-awareness and take action. I bring a warm, compassionate and practical approach to therapy in helping you to address the hurdles in your life.
